Born in Barcelona, Marc Serra combines his career as a soloist with an intense activity in the world of lied. Described as a musician who “seems to have a primary, respectful and intimate relationship with music, as if he understood it from the cortex and breathed life into it” (Diari Núvol), he has been praised for his absolute attention to timbre and his sensitivity to evoke sound nuances, as noted by the Revista Musical Catalana, which describes him as “subtle, sweet and tender.”
Marc made his debut as a soloist at the age of 16 in the Auditorium Palau de Congresos in Girona, performing with the Isaac Albéniz Conservatory Orchestra under the baton of Lluís Caballeria. Throughout his career, he has been awarded in numerous national and international competitions. In 2017 he debuted at the Palau de la Música within the framework of “El Primer Palau” and has performed concerts throughout Spain and Switzerland in prominent venues such as L’Auditori de Barcelona and the Grosser Saal of the Hochschule für Musik Basel, as well as in festivals such as Nits de Clàssica and Jalgi! Voz Festival de Vitoria.
As a lied pianist, he has had the opportunity to debut at renowned festivals, such as the Schubertíada de Vilabertran, Oxford Lieder Festival, Toronto Summer Music and the LIFE Victoria in Barcelona, playing in venues such as L’Auditori de Barcelona and the Palau de la Música.
He studied piano in Barcelona with Maria Jesús Crespo and in Basel with Claudio Martínez Mehner. In addition, he has deepened his knowledge of the world of lied with Francisco Poyato and Anton Kernjak, receiving advice from masters such as Luiz de Moura Castro, Ferenc Rados, Hartmut Höll and Wolfram Rieger.
He has been awarded scholarships by the Güell Foundation (2015) and the Victòria de los Ángeles Foundation, with whom he has collaborated on the recording of the CD “Pau i Victòria”. In recent years, he has been a collaborating pianist for the Victòria de los Ángeles Lied Master’s Degree at the ESMuC and currently works as a vocal coach at the Badalona Conservatory and as a professor of the Lied seminar at the Centro Superior de Música del Liceu.
