The German pianist of Ukrainian descent, Milana Chernyavska, has developed a remarkable career and is now one of the leading pianists and pedagogues of our time.
Milana Chernyavska has performed in the Musikverein halls in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, the Berlin Philharmonic, the Suntory in Tokyo, the Wigmore in London, and Carnegie Hall in New York. In addition, she has participated in several concert tours and festivals in Europe, the United States, and Asia. She performs regularly at festivals such as Lucerne, Salzburg, Rheingau, and the Ruhr, where she received the prestigious Alfred Brendel Prize.
In addition to her solo work, Milana Chernyavska regularly works with celebrated artists such as Julia Fischer, Lisa Batiashvili, Daniel Müller-Schott, and David Garrett, among others. The artist has recorded more than twenty CDs for well-known labels including DECCA, EMI, Sony, and Naxos. Many of her CDs have won international awards including the Diapason d’Or, the BBC Music Magazine Prix, and the Pizzicato Super Sonic Award. She has also received Germany’s most important media award, the Echo Prize.
As a multifaceted artist, Milana is a piano professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz. She also teaches at the International Music Academy of Liechtenstein. She also directs numerous international masterclasses around the world and has been a jury member in many competitions such as the ARD in Munich, the Busoni in Bolzano, the Mozart Competition in Salzburg, the Santa Cecilia in Porto, and the Blüthner Golden Award in Vienna. Her students consistently win first prizes in major international competitions such as Santander, Busoni, Maria Canals, Premio Vendome, the Malta Piano Competition, and many others.
Milana Chernyavska studied with Irina Lipatova and Valerij Sagajdachnij at the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Kiev. She completed her master’s studies at the Munich School of Music with professors Margarita Höhenrieder and Gerhard Oppitz. Her main musical influences and inspirations are Alfred Brendel, Ana Chumachenco, and Dmitry Bashkirov. Her artistic achievements include numerous awards in national and international competitions, and, precisely, one of her greatest achievements was receiving the award “Merited Artist of Ukraine” from her native country.
Since the 2021-2022 academic year, she has been a professor of the Fundación Banco Santander Piano Chair at the Reina Sofía School of Music.
