Born in Madrid in 1985, after studying at the Joaquín Turina professional conservatory with Rafael Frías and later with Karen Martirossian, he moved to London in 2003 to study with Rinat Ibagimov at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama, both undergraduate and postgraduate studies. Later, he would receive a final master’s degree at the «Hochschule Hans Eisler» with Professor Janne Saksala.
He has recently been invited to play as principal double bass with the “London Symphony Orchestra”, “Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra”, “Rotterdam Philharmonic”, “The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra”, “English National Opera (ENO)” BBC Orchestras, “Orchestre National de France in Paris”, “Scottish Chamber Orchestra”, “Royal Northern Sinfonia”, “London Mozart Players”, “London Sinfonieta and “Amsterdam Sinfonieta”, where he has been conducted by Sir Colin Davis, Valery Gergiev, Kurt Masur, Charles Dutoit or Bernard Haitink, among others.
Luis has participated in various festivals and recordings for prestigious labels such as EMI Classics, BBC and Pentatone, in addition to collaborating with the BBC’s “New Generation Artist” program in the United Kingdom, playing with artists such as Alina Ibragimova, Gordan Nicolitch and Sarah Chang, among others.
Since 2006, he has been the principal double bass of the «Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra» in Amsterdam, and his activity as a teacher and concert performer has led him to give courses and play in Hong Kong, Greece, Mexico, Holland, Argentina, the United Kingdom, France, Belgium and Spain.
Since 2012, he has been a professor at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and since 2018 at the Rotterdam Conservatory (CODARTS).
Luis plays with an instrument made by Carlo Ferdinando Landolfi c.1770 loaned by the National Musical Instrument Foundation of the Netherlands (NMF).
