Christoph Poppen: Telemann – Violin Fantasia No. 9 TWV 40:22

Course
2017-18

TELEMANN, Georg Philipp

Fantasia for Violin No. 9 TWV 40:22

I. Siciliano

II. Vivace

III. Allegro

Christoph Poppen, visiting professor

Inés Issel Burzyñska, student

The professor comments primarily on the tempo and meter: the Siciliano should be like walking (not so slow) and in 12 (more fluid), while the Vivace should have a more dance-like character, each note shorter. In this 2nd movement, he corrects some issues related to the articulation and duration of the notes.

In the 3rd movement, one must feel the “swing” of the dance (in three), and it is advisable to play the final note without fermata.
