BEETHOVEN, Ludwig van
Piano Trio in C minor, Op. 1 No. 3
I. Allegro con brio
Ferenc Rados, guest professor
Areti Trio
Anna Asieieva, violin
Indira Rahmatulla, cello
Lidia Nochovska, piano
After the Trio’s performance of the complete movement, Professor Rados makes corrections mainly related to articulation, phrasing, and rhythm. It is important not to play everything the same way all the time, especially the violin melody, and he also makes comments to the piano regarding this. Regarding dynamics, Ferenc Rados also suggests making more distinctions, and points out other issues related to character and color changes.
Later, the professor indicates that the repeated motif should not sound mechanical, and they stop briefly to review the calando indication at a point in the score. Then they work on a slower passage to review the metric accentuation and phrasing, which were not well defined. The professor also makes suggestions about certain sforzati, the sound, or the articulation and groups of notes on the piano. It is necessary to distinguish the planes and the important notes, some are more marked and others more emotional… to act as if there were a fermata even though it is not written.
Regarding the cello solo, he makes some phrasing recommendations. Then the violin follows and the piano here should not remain as something independent of the strings, there must be more integration. To conclude, he makes some further indications to the pianist.
