Pressler makes a brief initial comment noting that he has performed several works by César Franck, but not this one. He then makes some corrections regarding phrasing and dynamics (at the beginning of the violin I part, in the piano part, etc.). The members of the quintet must be aware of the melodic lines and the balance of sound between the five instruments at all times.
Later, Pressler explains a rhythmic motif in a certain passage of the piano. He also asks the group to identify all the voices and explains some themes referring to the agogic (accelerandi, ritardandi), the pulse, and the anacrusis.
Regarding phrasing, he indicates the notes that should be highlighted in the phrase due to their melodic relevance.
