Joaquín Arias

(Madrid, Spain) Joaquín Arias is a violist and violinist from Madrid. He began his violin studies with Sergio Castro and Anna Baget in his hometown, and later in San Sebastián with Keiko Wataya. In 2016, he studied at the Reina Sofía School of Music, first in Zakhar Bron’s class, and from 2019 to 2021 he was a student in Diemut Poppen’s class.
As a violist, in December 2019 he received first prize in the 18th Intercentros Melómano Competition, organised by the Orfeo Foundation. As a violinist, he has been awarded second prize in the Villa de Llanes International Competition. He has also performed William Walton’s Viola Concerto with the RTVE Orchestra, where he has also been invited to collaborate as a soloist. He has been part of the Ciudad de Getafe Orchestra and the Euskadiko Orkestra, and has also performed as a soloist with the Complutense University of Madrid Orchestra, the Adolfo Salazar Symphony Orchestra, and the orchestra of the Higher Conservatory of Music of the Basque Country, Musikene.
He has taken part in festivals such as Música Musika in Bilbao and the San Sebastián Musical Fortnight, as well as the Quartet International Academy in Vic, the Música Cambra de Godella Festival, the Úbeda Festival, MUSEG, and the Musethica Festival. He has also participated on several occasions in the Satélites series, part of the programme of the National Auditorium of Music.
He is currently a member of the Spanish National Orchestra, which he joined in 2021, playing his 2021 Germain Trumpf viola.
