José Pinto

(Vila Real, Portugal) José Pinto began his musical training in his hometown and later received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in clarinet at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo in Porto with Nuno Pinto. He was subsequently awarded a scholarship by the GDA Foundation to continue his advanced studies at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid with Michel Arrignon. He has attended masterclasses with internationally renowned clarinetists such as Sabine Meyer, Yehuda Gilad, Vicente Alberola, Juan Ferrer, and Karl Leister, among others.
He has won prizes in several international competitions, including First Prize at the International Clarinet Association in the USA in 2014. As a soloist, he has participated in international festivals in Portugal and Spain, such as Klassic Fest, Paços de Brandão, or the Festival Internacional de Clarinete.
He actively supports various orchestral groups such as the ORCAM, Madrid Symphony Orchestra, RTVE Orchestra, Santa Cecilia Orchestra, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian Orchestra, and Orchestra XXI, where he has worked with conductors such as Pinchas Zukerman, Plácido Domingo, Guy Braunstein, and Pablo Heras-Casado.
He is currently active as a performer while serving on the faculty of the American School of Madrid, where he teaches.
