Born in Portugal, José Pinto began his musical studies in his hometown of Vila Real, Portugal. His musical training progressed as a student at the Escola Superior de Música e Artes do Espectáculo in Porto with Nuno Pinto, where he received his Higher and Master’s degrees.

Subsequently, he was awarded a scholarship by the GDA Foundation to continue his studies at the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid with Michel Arrignon. He has also participated in several masterclasses with internationally renowned clarinetists such as Sabine Meyer, Yehuda Gilad, Vicente Alberola, Juan Ferrer, and Karl Leister, among others.

José Pinto has been awarded prizes in several international competitions, including First Prize at the International Clarinet Association in the USA in 2014. As a soloist, he has participated in international festivals in Portugal and Spain, such as Klassic Fest Paços de Brandão, International Clarinet Festival

He actively collaborates with various orchestral groups such as ORCAM, Madrid Symphony Orchestra, RTVE Orchestra, Santa Cecilia Orchestra, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation Orchestra, and Orchestra XXI, where he has worked with conductors such as Pinchas Zuckerman, Placido Domingo, Guy Braunstein, and Pablo Heras Casado.

He currently combines his artistic endeavors with teaching, as a member of the faculty at the American School of Madrid.
