The ”la Caixa” Foundation, the Reina Sofía School, and the Conservatori Liceu Foundation create the “Contrapunto” artistic collaboration project

Madrid, May 20. The ”la Caixa” Foundation, the Reina Sofía School of Music, and the Conservatori Liceu Foundation have signed a collaboration agreement to carry out the «Contrapunto» project, a proposal that reflects the commitment to educational excellence and innovation shared by the three institutions.

«Contrapunto» was born as an initiative promoted by the ”la Caixa” Foundation in which students from the Reina Sofía School of Music and the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu will work on a collaborative proposal for artistic co-creation. The project is aimed at fostering the academic, artistic, and cultural exchange of young musicians from both centers to promote cultural dialogue, collaborative work, and artistic excellence.

Students from both institutions will form a chamber ensemble and work for several weeks preparing a joint musical program, followed by a concert tour at various CaixaForum venues across Spain. The experience includes shared rehearsals, meetings between participants, and cultural activities during a tour that will begin in Barcelona and continue through Zaragoza, Palma, Seville, Madrid, and Valencia.

Beyond its artistic dimension, the project’s purpose is to help strengthen connections within our country’s musical and educational ecosystem. The initiative will generate a space for collaboration between two institutions with trajectories of recognized prestige in training performers, composers, and conductors who operate in different geographical contexts.

The artistic program also reflects this idea of dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity: a work belonging to the great repertoire, Richard Wagner’s Siegfried Idyll, is joined by a composition by Louise Farrenc, one of the most prominent female voices in Western music and essential for the necessary recognition of women’s role in classical musical creation. The program performed in this project also incorporates a cycle of songs composed by students and graduates from both institutions, created around a thematic thread focused on women and children, with an emphasis on care, identity, family intimacy, and the future. The concerts will thus become spaces where European musical heritage and the creativity of a new generation of composers will coexist.

During the days of the «Contrapunto» project, music will be the common language connecting young musicians with different experiences and backgrounds. In this way, the role of music as an axis for social transformation and a contribution to personal development will be highlighted.
