Roots and Future Conference: the Arab Legacy in Spanish Music

This project is part of the alliance with Qatar Foundation

Madrid, November 4, 2025.- On November 21 and 22, the Reina Sofía School of Music, in collaboration with Qatar Foundation, will hold the presentation days of the Professorship of Arab Studies, under the title “Roots and Future: the Arab Legacy in Spanish Music”, which will bring renowned international experts in the field to Madrid.

Through this Professorship, both institutions will promote an exchange of knowledge and learning of Arab music and culture with which to build new bridges between diverse societies without forgetting the historical characteristics of each of them. This collaboration represents an important milestone in the internationalization of the vision of the Reina Sofía School, with almost 35 years of experience in top-level musical education.

The days, which will take place at the facilities of the Reina Sofía School of Music, will combine workshops, conferences, round tables and a final concert in the Sony Auditorium of the School. The activities will be held in English and French with simultaneous translation and will be free of charge until full capacity is reached. Prior registration is required here.

The Professorship of Arab Studies is part of the collaboration agreement signed by the Reina Sofía School of Music and Qatar Foundation (QF). An alliance with which they aspire to transform musical education and promote cultural exchange globally. Thus, cultural exchanges have already taken place between both institutions, such as the master classes developed by the School’s faculty at Qatar Music Academy (QMA), which is part of QF’s pre-university education, or the participation of students from this institution in the School’s Young Artists Summer Camp.
