Santander, June 15, 2022.- This morning, under the presidency of Pablo Zuloaga, Vice President of the Government of Cantabria, the Albéniz Foundation’s musical program for the summer of 2022 was presented at the Cantabria Festival Palace. Also attending the press conference were Paloma O’Shea, President and Founder of the Santander International Piano Competition and the Albéniz Foundation; Gema Igual, Mayor of Santander and Maestro Péter Csaba, Artistic Director of the Santander Encounter.
Pablo Zuloaga, who reiterated the support of the Government of Cantabria for the activities of the Santander Encounter and the International Piano Competition, stressed that “The Albéniz Foundation’s cultural summer fulfills an important mission, a task that is to bring culture closer to society. Culture is more visible and more alive. And public administrations must continue to support a sector that has had a bad time over the last few years, which is why I want to emphasize the affection with which the Albéniz Foundation imbues everything it does.”
Zuloaga stressed that “Culture will be essential to defining what we will be in the future.”
For her part, the Mayor of Santander, Gema Igual, highlighted the many years in which these two great musical events have taken place in the city. “Great culture continues to have an appointment in Santander. This year we have a lot of music to enjoy in the city. The Encounter makes the people of Santander understand music, good music, which is what we are going to have. And thank you to Paloma O’Shea for being a patron of culture, for enhancing the Santander summer and for bringing us closer to and investing in the great masters of tomorrow with an exceptional piano competition.”

“This year’s program presents a rich and varied agenda in content, making possible the good and delicate balance in essence between young people and the artists-teachers who share the stage.” For Csaba “The Encounter keeps the music alive. The young people end up becoming great professionals, and for twenty years the Encounter has been sharing that knowledge and that spirit that makes the music live on.”
“Today we have a society of many turbulences, problems, and culture is essential for us. We have the great opportunity to continue celebrating these artistic moments together with the public that seeks beauty, the beauty of enjoying the small things and that is why we are going to continue working with enthusiasm and continue to have an even better Encounter”, said Péter Csaba, artistic director of the Santander Music and Academy Encounter.
