Throughout the month of July, the Santander Music and Academy Encounter will bring together 11 great masters with 67 young musicians, selected by the new artistic directors of the Encounter, Márta Gulyás and Luis Fernando Pérez, in online auditions. All of them will work together in the classroom and share the stage, providing an especially enriching experience of interaction between them, addressing a program of great international repertoire, which will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Maurice Ravel, the 200th anniversary of the birth of Johann Strauss, the 50th anniversary of the death of Dmitry Shostakovich and the Centenary of the death of Erik Satie.

The inaugural concert in the Argenta Hall of the Festival Palace will be on Tuesday, July 8 at 8:00 p.m., sponsored by the EDP Foundation. The Freixenet Symphony Orchestra of the Encounter, under the baton of Maestro Péter Csaba, will perform works by Brahms and Ravel. For its part, at the closing concert, on July 26 at 8:00 p.m. in the Argenta Hall, the mastery of Jordi Francés will be featured in the direction of the Encounter’s String Ensemble together with the guest artist on the accordion, Iñaki Alberdi. All of them will bring to the public one of the works of Sofia Gubaidúlina, who is honored in this event sponsored by the Banco Santander Foundation.

The academic activity (master classes, individual study, work in chamber groups and large ensembles) will take place in the facilities of the Jesús de Monasterio Conservatory, which this year hosts master classes in violin, viola, cello, flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, voice and piano.

The concert schedule will feature 46 performances, which can be found in the Encounter Schedule.
