Cultural Ambassador of Costa Rica and Yamaha Artist for Latin America, Alexis Morales is recognized as one of the leading trumpet figures across the continent.
A graduate of the University of Costa Rica and diploma holder from the O. Vecchi – A. Tonelli Conservatory of Music in Modena, he earned his Master’s Degree in Trumpet from the Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid in 2020, under the mentorship of Manuel Blanco and Reinhold Friedrich—becoming only the second Latin American trumpeter in history to complete his studies with the legendary maestro. Throughout his training, he also studied with two highly influential figures: French soloist Pierre Dutot and British trumpeter John Miller.
Over the course of his career, he has been invited to numerous festivals and has participated in international competitions around the globe. He has performed as a soloist across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Oceania, and has played with orchestras worldwide under the baton of conductors such as Zubin Mehta, Gustavo Dudamel, Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Pablo Heras-Casado, Peter Eötvös, David Afkham, and Plácido Domingo, among others. He has shared the stage or collaborated with nearly all of the trumpet world’s legendary figures, including Arturo Sandoval, Reinhold Friedrich, Sergei Nakariakov, Rubén Simeó, Doc Severinsen, David Hickman, Manuel Blanco, Jens Lindemann, and Ronald Romm.
In parallel with his artistic career, he serves as a professor at the University of Costa Rica. He regularly offers masterclasses and seminars worldwide, many of them promoted by the Yamaha Brass Academy (YBA), where he is co-director for Latin America. His teaching engagements include appearances at the International Trumpet Guild Conference, Maspalomas International Trumpet Festival, Next Generation Trumpet Competition, Australian Trumpet Academy, Guatebrass, Festibrass México, Colombian Trumpet Academy, among many others. In 2022, he was invited by the Úbeda International Music Festival to participate in the Festival Academy alongside maestro Joaquín Achúcarro—being the only two faculty members appointed for the edition.
He combines his performance and pedagogical work with his role as Artistic Director of the Costa Rica International Trumpet Festival, the “Metalurgia” International Brass Festival, and the National Trumpet Camp. He is also one of only twenty trumpeters worldwide serving on the prestigious board of the International Trumpet Guild, the leading global institution for the trumpet.
His music has been broadcast by the EBU (European Broadcasting Union), Spanish National Radio, Cadena SER, Onda CERO, Radio Universidad de Costa Rica, Quince TV, Channel 7 (Costa Rica), and Canal Sur TV (Spain). His discography includes participation in six full-length albums with the Heredia Symphony Orchestra, as well as two albums with the San José Concert Band. He has also collaborated on recordings with various prominent pop and rock artists, among other genres. He is currently engaged in the recording of the debut album of the Dúo Atlántico in Costa Rica, titled Canciones y estampas. Dos orillas, featuring Hugo Valverde, principal horn of the Metropolitan Opera.
