Christoph Vandory, born in 1991 in Munich, began studying the viola at the age of ten under Julieta Craciunescu. He later studied with Martin-Albrecht Rohde, who accepted him as a pre-college student in 2009 and as a full student in 2010 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich. Since 2011, he has been studying with Prof. Hariolf Schlichtig. During the 2014/15 academic year, he completed an Erasmus exchange at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris with Prof. Jean Sulem.
Over the years, he has received valuable musical guidance through masterclasses with renowned musicians such as Barbara Westphal, Jürgen Weber, Michael Tree, Stephan Fehlandt, Miguel da Silva, Gilad Karni, and Lars Anders Tomter. In April 2014, Christoph took part in the International Musicians Seminar at Prussia Cove.
In addition to his role as violist of the Goldmund Quartet, Christoph regularly performs as a soloist and chamber musician. He has collaborated with prominent artists such as Ingolf Turban, Christoph Poppen, Rebekka Hartmann, Arabella Steinbacher, Oliver Triendl, and Boris Kucharsky. At the age of 16, he made his solo debut with orchestra, and has since performed with the Symphony Orchestra of the Pestalozzi-Gymnasium in Munich and the Philharmonic Orchestra of Bad Reichenhall. In 2010, he premiered Kay Westermann’s Concerto for Viola, Oboe, and Orchestra.
Christoph has given concerts in England, Italy, Spain, Austria, and France, as well as in Egypt, Oman, the USA, and Canada. He has performed in major venues such as the White Hall in Stuttgart, the Herkulessaal, and the Munich Philharmonic.
He is a multiple prizewinner at Germany’s national “Jugend musiziert” competition, having also received several special awards. His artistic development has been supported by the Ingeborg Stachel Foundation, the DAAD, the Franco-German Youth Office, the Theodor Rogler Foundation, and, since 2011, by “YEHUDI MENUHIN Live Music Now Munich” as a member of the Goldmund Quartet.
