Guilherme Alexandre Tomás Cecília

Born in Portugal, in 2003. Since 2022, he studies at the Reina Sofía School of Music’s Fundación BBVA Viola Chair with professor Nobuko Imai. He has been granted scholarships by Fundación EDP and Fundación Albéniz.

After beginning his music studies with violin at the Escuela de Música Artística in the National Conservatory of Lisbon, at the age of fifteen, he decided to switch to viola, under the guidance of professor Samuel Barsegian. He currently studies at the Escuela Profesional Metropolitana.

He has attended masterclasses by professors such as Aida Carmen-Soanea, Alexander Zemtsov, Anna-Kreetta Gribajcevic, Diemut Poppen, Marc Sabbah, Máté Szücs, Nobuko Imai, and Paul Wakabayashi. He was also selected to play in the final orchestra concert of the 2021 Mendelssohn Summer School.

During his studies, he has played in several school orchestras, including the National Conservatory Symphony Orchestra and the Classical Metropolitan Orchestra. In 2020 he was admitted into the Portuguese Youth Orchestra, member of the European Federation of National Youth Orchestras and invited to perform with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra.

As a student of the School, he has been a member of the Freixenet Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Andrés Orozco-Estrada, and that of the Fundación EDP Camerata, conducted by Christoph Poppen. He is currently a member of the Saint-Saëns Ensemble.
