William Alexander Gómez Rodríguez

Avatar William Alexander Gómez Rodríguez

William Gómez is a professional pianist born in San José Villanueva, La Libertad. He developed a passion for music at the age of seven.

At eleven, he enrolled in extracurricular music courses offered at his local school, and by the age of sixteen, he began studying trumpet and saxophone under the guidance of maestro Jorge Morales. He later joined the National Center for the Arts in El Salvador, where he received instruction from professor Giovanni Ardón. It was Ardón who encouraged him to pursue his training in Costa Rica under the mentorship of Doctor Alexandr Sklioutovski, given that, to this day, El Salvador does not offer a professional degree program in piano.

In 2006, he began his formal studies at the Universidad Nacional in Heredia, Costa Rica, and that same year he made his debut performance at the National Theatre of Costa Rica.

In 2009, he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Teaching and Performance with a specialization in Piano from the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica. From 2011 to 2012, he pursued postgraduate studies at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía in Madrid. In 2020, he completed his Master’s degree in Piano at the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica. His current recital program includes works by composers from Central, Northern, and Southern Europe, as well as American and Latin American composers. He is also working on a series of piano transcriptions of Salvadoran folk music.

Gómez has performed in numerous concerts both nationally and internationally.

His international engagements include performances at Weill Hall at Carnegie Hall in New York; Teatro San Teodoro and Teatro Fumagalli in Dicomo, Italy; Sony Auditorium in Madrid, Spain; Domculture Bjelovar in Croatia; the Belgian competition The Universal Marimba; and the Ibero-American Summit of Nations held in El Salvador in October 2008.

His distinguished career has earned him honors such as an Honorable Mention at the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition 2007 in New York, and he was a semifinalist at the 21st Città di Cantù International Piano Competition in Italy.
