Andrés Felipe Poveda Herrera

Born in Bogotá D. C., Colombia, in 1994. Since 2024, he studies at the Reina Sofía School of Music's Inditex Composition Chair with professor Fabián Panisello. He has been granted scholarships by Fundación Santo Domingo, MAEC/AECID and Fundación Albéniz.

A Colombian cellist and composer, he graduated from the Music Program at Universidad de los Andes, where he studied composition with Catalina Peralta and Rodolfo Acosta. He has also taken masterclasses with renowned composers such as Julia Wolfe, David Lang, and Michael Gordon. His work has received numerous national and international awards, including second prize at the CILASiM International Composition Competition for Savannah, first prize from the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra for Órbita Celestial, an honorable mention from the Banco de la República for String Quartet No. 2 – Rito, and second prize at the Música con Passione competition for Singularidad.

In 2022, he won the Bogotá Philharmonic’s Contemporary Music Competition with Corraleja and was selected by the JACK Quartet. In 2023, Aleación I was performed by Bang on a Can All Stars; Supernova was awarded the Plataforma +28 prize; and BEEF was selected by the Banco de la República. In 2024 and 2025, he received further recognition for Fuerza y Movimiento II, BEEF, and Figuras y fondo.

His music has been performed by prominent ensembles and orchestras across the Americas and Europe. He is co-founder of Ensamble Vasto and the composers’ collective EARS Composers, whose highlights include the multidisciplinary project Tierra de Aves. His works are published by Cayambis Music Press and Babel Scores.
