Lorena Sainz León

Born in Madrid (Spain) in 2003. Since 2025, she has been studying at the BBVA Foundation Viola Chair of the Reina Sofía School of Music with professor Diemut Poppen. She has been granted scholarships by Consejería de Educación, Universidades y Ciencia de la Comunidad de Madrid and Fundación Albéniz.

She began her musical studies at the age of 4 at the Arión School, and at 7 she entered the Arturo Soria Conservatory specialising in viola. She has studied with Joaquín Riquelme, Laure Gaudron, and Alan Kovacks. She completed her Professional Degree with an End-of-Degree Award. Later, she studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Madrid with Thuan Do Minh and Alicia Calabuig, graduating with Honours in her Final Recital, and spent a year at the Hochschule für Musik in Weimar as part of an Erasmus+ programme with professor Frank Strauch.

In 2019 she won First Prize at the Haydn Competition with the Oryon Quartet, performing at the Chamber Hall of the National Auditorium. She has been an associate member of the EUYO and the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester in 2024/2025. In 2025, with the Agorik Quartet, she won the Jesús de Monasterio Chamber Music Competition.

She is currently a member of the Spanish National Youth Orchestra, and has also collaborated with the Orchestra Giovanile Italiana and the Wiener Jeunesse Orchester, as well as participating in other projects with renowned conductors and musicians on the international scene.

As a student of the School, she is part of the Cosan Ensemble.
