Marta Zabaleta

The pianist from Guipuzcoa obtained the First Prize at the end of her studies in San Sebastian at the age of 16 and travelled to the most important European schools to consolidate her training, CNSM in Paris with D. Merlet, Reina Sofía School of Music in Madrid with D. Bashkirov and the Marshall Academy in Barcelona with Alicia de Larrocha, always obtaining the highest marks.

She obtained important prizes in the international competitions of Santander, as best Spanish pianist, Darmstadt, Jaén, Pilar Bayonna.... and her concert life develops in recital or with symphony orchestras such as those of Euskadi, Bilbao, Extremadura, Castilla y León, Murcia, RTVE, Comunidad de Madrid, Galicia, Córdoba, Málaga, Granada, Valencia, English Chamber, London Symphony, Berlin Symphony, Escuela Reina Sofía... under the baton of maestros as important as Sir Colin Davis, Daniele Gatti, Harry Christophers, S. Comissiona, C. Mandeal, M. Venzago, G. Varga, G. Neuhold, J. C. Spinossi, G. Pelhivanian, J. Mena, D. Wilson, L. Pfaff, J. M. Encinar, J. Amigo, M. Bragado, G. I. Ramos and C. Wilkins, among others.

Marta Zabaleta shares the chamber music stage with the cellist Asier Polo, with whom she made her debut at Carnegie Hall in New York, with the pianist Miguel Borges Coelho and with the Ysaÿe Quartet.

On the market are the recorded works of J. Rodrigo on the EMI label, F. Escudero on the Swiss label CLAVES, and the two-piano concerto by M. Pompey on the RTVE label. She has also recorded "Pecados de juventud" with compositions by Alicia de Larrocha, 'Goyescas' by Granados published by "La mà de Guido" and together with the cellist Asier Polo with works by Rachmaninov and Frank, one with the BBK label and the other with IBS Classical.

She teaches at the Centro de Música Superior del País Vasco -Musikene-, and has been director of the Marshall Academy in Barcelona at the express wish of her predecessor Alicia de Larrocha. She has been invited to teach at prestigious European conservatories, the Hoghschule in Cologne, Trinity Laban in London, and in other continents, such as the University of Bogota and Aukland, New Zealand.

She has been awarded the Albéniz medal by Fundación Isaac Albéniz.
