New Skills 4 New Artists

Traditional training of musical artists has focused on the technical skills required for creation and performance of music. However, the information technology age has fundamentally changed the music industry. The writing, recording, selling and live performance of music takes place in an increasingly global market. European artists are thus competing with artists from around the world and their success depends on their technical and commercial skills as much as their artistic talent and skill.

The New Skills for New Artists (NS4NA) project began in 2019 and has the following goals:

  • Provide musicians with the tools and capabilities to capitalise on novel opportunities.
  • Design and test an open source interdisciplinary training programme.
  • Support the adoption and integration of this training program by education institutions across Europe.
  • Support vibrant careers in music that contribute economically and culturally to the success of Europe.

This Erasmus + project, financed by the European Union through SEPIE, is led by the Reina Sofía School of Music in association with the Cork Institute of Technology (Ireland), Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussels (Belgium) and Grupo DEX (Spain).
