Héctor Teja Herrera

Born in Cádiz (Spain) in 2007, he has been studying at the Reina Sofía School of Music since 2025, in the bassoon chair under the guidance of professors Gustavo Núñez, Francisco Alonso, and Ramón Ortega. He holds a scholarship from the Albéniz Foundation.

He trained at the Manuel de Falla Professional Conservatory in Cádiz from 2018 with professor Arnau Coma, graduating with top honours in 2025 and performing as a guest soloist with the conservatory’s orchestra during that time. Simultaneously, he was part of the Barenboim-Said Academy of Orchestral Studies, studying with Francisco Cerpa and María José Rielo in the 2024/25 academic year, and with Guilhaume Santana in 2025/26. He has received numerous masterclasses from renowned musicians including Higinio Arrué, Miguel Puchol, Reynold Cárdenas, Hans Agreda, Gustavo Núñez, Pepa García, Sarah Ropper, as well as Mor Biron and Lorenzo Coppola (chamber music), among others.

He has attended the European festival Eurochestries in Pons and performed in concert halls such as the Gran Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville, the Teatro Falla in Cádiz, and the Auditorio Maestro Padilla in Almería, under conductors including Oksana Lyniv, David Fernández Caravaca, Irene Gómez, and Vicente Alberola, among others. He has also accompanied internationally acclaimed soloists such as Michael Barenboim.

He is currently an active member of the Youth Orchestra of Andalusia. He has been part of the Joven Camerata Jerezana (the youth ensemble of the Orquesta Beigbeder) and the Seville Chamber Orchestra, performing as a soloist with both. He was also a member of the JOFCA, Camerata l’Istesso Tempo, the City of Ceuta Orchestra, and the University of Cádiz Choir Orchestra, among others, often playing as principal bassoon.

In 2024, he received the special prize in his category at the Double Reed Competition in Seville, and in 2025, he won first prize in the 13th Soloist Performance Competition with Orchestra at the RCPM Manuel de Falla.

He plays a Moosmann 222 Soloist Model bassoon.
