Michelangeli Trio

The Michelangeli Trio, founded in Munich and formed by violinist Javier Comesaña, cellist Alessandra Doninelli and pianist Riccardo Gagliardi, is united not only by friendship, but also by their deep love of the chamber music repertoire. The trio owes its name to the extraordinary pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, who is a great inspiration for the three musicians: an eclectic and refined character, capable of combining both cantabile and rigour as well as power and delicacy. With his meditative and universal style, he profoundly influenced the musical taste of his time and of later generations.

The Michelangeli Trio performs on the stages of international festivals and seasons in Europe. It has studied with world-class musicians such as Marco Rizzi, Wen-Sinn Yang, Werner Bärtschi, Oliver Wille, Bernd Glemser and Margarita Höhenrieder-Dornier. In March 2023, the Michelangeli Trio won 1st prize in the international competition "Giulio Rospigliosi" in Italy. Furthermore, the trio is one of the eleven chamber music ensembles invited to the "Osaka International Chamber Music Competition & Festa" in May 2023 in Japan.

The trio is currently studying with professors Silke Avenhaus and Raphaël Merlin at the master's course for chamber music at the University of Music and Theatre in Munich. Since the 23-24th academic year, they have been studying at the International Institute of Chamber Music in Madrid at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía with Günter Pichler.

All three members can boast national and international success not only in chamber music, but also as soloists: Javier Comesaña has played as soloist with National Orchestra of Spain, Riccardo Gagliardi has been awarded in more than 20 international competitions and Alessandra Doninelli made her debut as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic and on some of the most prestigious stages in the world.
