Carlos García Sanz, Bilbao’s Symphony Orchestra soloist clarinetist since 2000, began his music studies at the Alcañiz Conservatory of Music. He furthered his studies at the Zaragoza Conservatory of Music with clarinet professor Emilio Ferrando. He obtained his degree diploma in Clarinet and Chamber Music from the Conservatoire Superieur National de Musique et Dance in Paris in 2000, having as clarinet professors Michel Arrignon and Alain Damiens, among others. He obtained the “Premier prix” in both specialties. During his career as clarinetist, he has collaborated with several professional orchestras such as the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Strasbourg’s Philharmonic Orchestra, Brittany’s Symphony Orchestra, National Orchestra of the Loire countries, Castilla y Leon Symphony Orchestra, and also with the IRCAM (L'Institut de Recherche et Coordination Acoustique/Musique) in Paris. He has also collaborated with its orchestra as soloist, performing works such as Debussy’s Premiere Raphsodie for clarinet and orchestra, Claudio Prieto’s Concierto Latino, Berstein’s Prelude, fugue and riffs, Brahms’ Sonata No. 1 opus 120 (arranged by L. Berio), as well as the premiere of the version for clarinet and orchestra of Isabel Urrutia’s “Haizearen naiak” at the Musikaste Festival. In his teaching capacity, Carlos García Sanz has been a clarinet and clarinet orchestra repertoire professor at Aragón’s Conservatory of Music and clarinet professor at Leioa’s Conservatory in Vizcaya. Since the 2022-2023 academic year, he is associate professor at the Reina Sofía School of Music’s Clarinet Chair.
