SAINT-SAËNS, Camille
Sonata for oboe and piano in D major op 166
III. Molto allegro
Ramón Ortega Quero, professor
Lucía Talavera Haya, student
Alina Artemyeva, accompanying pianist
After her performance of the third movement of the Saint-Saëns Sonata, the professor congratulates the student, noting that she has truly understood the piece — which is the most important thing — and that, in general, he especially enjoys her sound when she plays with more air.
He sets out to work on two main points: first, that the student use about 10% more air when breathing and blowing, especially in softer dynamics, so that the sound comes out more naturally; and second, that she pay closer attention to the endings of the notes.
Regarding the Molto allegro, Ortega suggests playing the opening with a stronger mezzo forte sound, not so closed. He advises her to work at home on air projection to avoid certain notes sounding too constrained. Finally, he gives a few suggestions about tempo and rhythmic flexibility.
