SCHUMANN, Robert
Fantasiestücke (Piezas de fantasía) para clarinete y piano op. 73 (versión para viola y piano)
II. Lebhaft, leicht
Gérard Caussé, guest professor
Héctor Mira Ferriz, student
Antonia Valente, accompanying pianist
The professor congratulates the student after the performance, noting that it is not an easy piece, as it was originally written for clarinet and adapting it for viola can be more challenging, especially in the higher passages doubled by the piano.
For the opening theme, he suggests applying more bow pressure on the string to bring out the harmonic more clearly. Later, Caussé offers some corrections regarding phrasing and articulation, to align more closely with the piano’s lines. In the repeated section, he encourages the student to play it differently - for example, the first time more lightly and the second more assertively. Further on, he makes a small correction concerning intonation in a specific interval.
