Marco Postinghel: Stravinsky - The Rite of Spring (bassoon part) - Part I. Adoration of the Earth

STRAVINSKY, Igor

Vesna svyashchennaya (The Rite of Spring) for orchestra (bassoon part)

Part I. Adoration of the Earth: Introduction

Marco Postinghel, guest professor

Javier Biosca Bas, student

In this masterclass, Prof. Postinghel works mainly rhythmical, accentuation and phrasing issues. In a certain note with tension, the student must maintain more the sound. In the tempo ‘rubato ad libitum’, it is necessary more movement, not to slow down.
Afterwards, the professor comments the words by Stravinsky about this piece: it is like feel or smell the spring suddenly. So, it is necessary more surprise sensation to express this. Then, Postinghel proposes the student an exercise to control the air on C, playing the first harmonic.
Here, there is a passage on which the song ‘La vie en rose’ is based. In a certain moment, Marco Postinghel corrects the phrasing to get a style near to Stravinsky, not Haydn. He also corrects some fingering, and they deal with some doubtful notes depending on different versions.
