COUPERIN, François
Concert royal no. 1 for violin, flute, oboe, viol and bassoon in G major (version for oboe and basso continuo)
II. Allemande. Légèrement
Ramón Ortega Quero, professor
Manuela Candela Muñoz, oboe
Candela Pérez González, bassoon
Alina Artemyeva, harpsichord
For the Allemande, the professor praises the elegance of the chosen tempo but suggests greater clarity in articulation and phrasing. He notes that the downbeats don’t need to be emphasized as much — rather, it’s the third beats, toward the end of the phrases, that should be brought out.
He also asks for more energy and openness at the beginning to capture the cheerful, uplifting dance character of the Allemande — more brightness. A more lyrical, cantabile section follows, before the dance-like character returns, and the professor encourages the student to highlight these contrasts more clearly.
For certain trills, he suggests creating more tension just before they begin and then releasing it, to give them a more distinctly French and elegant quality.
