La bohème
"Mi chiamano Mimì"
Tom Krause, professor
Iwona Sobotka, student
Madalit Lamazares, accompanying pianist
Professor Krause comments to the student that it is better to avoid very pronounced portamentos and explains that the pianissimos of the aria are totally intentional because of the meaning of the text. Coming to the end, the last note should not be so long, but gently dropped. He advises not to start the daily study with this aria. Krause explains the way to place the sound before the emission, always relaxing and smiling, and they work on it for several minutes. Voice should never be forced; we must be aware of the emotion and let it go totally free. To conclude, they work on the placement of the final phrases.
